James Munroe

Co-Founder, Stackabl and Founder, OAAT

James Munroe is the co-founder of Stackabl as well as the founder of OAAT, an architectural practice focused on intricate residential projects. James has been a systems-thinker as far back as his M.Arch thesis, engaging in design by crafting material and process-specific algorithms. Known for executing unusual yet efficient design systems, he employs parametric tools and AI to produce configurable architecture at all scales. Along with Jeff Forrest, James has published and exhibited internationally, receiving multiple awards including several Best of Canada nods. Despite his deep commitment to digital systems and design, James spends surprisingly little time behind a screen. He’s just as likely to be prototyping for Stackabl as he is tuning his road bike or swinging a hammer. This hands-on approach is a cornerstone of his design philosophy, blending real-world practicalities with innovative, systems-based thinking.
